Are You Kidding Me?!?

Today is Tuesday, October 12, 2010. The weather has cooled down again here, so happy! The days are in the 80's and the evenings are in the 50's. Supposed to get into the 40's at night starting Thursday. Going to make some really cool mornings here. Looking forward to the fall colors arriving.

I usually don't get to worked up over stupid statements, but let me tell you, this got me all worked up. Mama called yesterday to tell me that there would be no cost of living adjustment in social security again this year, the cost of living has not went up. This statement was just about as good as the "recession is over". What world are these people living in? Surly not this one. In the same breath the price of gas is likely to go to almost $3.00 a gallon, a gas tax, to pay for another spending bill?

Are you kidding me? The cost of living has not went up? These folks haven't gone to the grocery store in a while, have they? When the cost of fuel went up, so did the groceries, however when the cost of fuel went down, the grocery prices never went down, in fact they have gone up. Last week when I went shopping coffee went from $6.98 to $7.60 and the can is now 7 ounces less! This was a hike in just one week! Same thing with hot dogs a one pound package is now 12 ounces, bacon same thing and so many other items.

The price of gas in October 2009 (east coast) was $2.41, this year $2.67, ours is running at $2.69 as of yesterday. The price of electric, I used our electric company, couldn't find any numbers as a whole, in 2009 was $109.30 (based on 1,000 KWH), this year $112.50. These prices do NOT include what they call a "fuel adjustment cost" which is a little over 1/3 of the bill, nor does it include taxes or membership fee of what use to be $7.00 a month and is now $11.00 a month. The cable bill has also went up another $8.00 a month.

I want to know where the cost of living has not gone up and the recession is over. I am ready to pack up and move. These folks that make these kinds of statements have had one to many tasty beverages. Am I the only one that has noticed the prices going up? Am I living in the wrong place? Are my bills the only ones that are going up?

Help me to understand these kinds of statements........thanks for listening.

Cooler Weather Is Here

Today is Wednesday, October 6, 2010. The weather has really cooled off this week! It has been in the the high 70's all week and in the 50's over night. I do believe that fall is coming!

With the cooler temperatures the house is opened up, loving it. Cleaned the kitchen from top to bottom and cleaned out cabinets of "stuff" that hasn't seen day light since this time last year. If it hasn't been used in a year, it gets tossed. Then I moved things around, so it should be interesting when the guys go looking for something.

George is back to wearing long jeans to work. He has been is shorts all summer and yesterday he decided that it might be best to wear something a little warmer. I am going to put that off for as long as I can. My feet won't know what to do being enclosed, they like nothing on them and only sandals when they are forced into them.

The holiday candy was put on hold the last couple of days. That's okay the house sure feels better. Tomorrow I will get back at it and have it finished just like all of the other years.

Mama called me yesterday and said that she had gotten a check from that guy for $250! Well that's a start. If it takes him six months to pay her back, at least she will get it. I don't think she will ever do something like that again. She told me after five months she didn't think she would be seeing it again. Keeping fingers crossed that he continues to repay her.

While cleaning the pool yesterday, I thought, hey I don't have to close this thing up by myself this year! George is home and he and the boys can do it. If the temperatures continue being cooler, we can get it closed up soon. Nothing like pouring money, time and energy into a pool that is way to cold to use, just doesn't make sense.

The girls laid over ten dozen eggs last month! I am so proud of them. Now I need to get the sides of their house covered and get them some light in there. As long as they have 14 hours of light they will continue to lay. Have to make sure they stay warm so have to get a heat light in there too. Then I read that if they "drink" frozen water it would kill them. So I need to figure out how to keep their water from freezing when it gets really cold.

Added some jewelry to my shop the last two days. Took pictures and even listed them, this is not my favorite thing to do. My pictures never look right no matter how many I take or at what time I take them. I do find it is better taking them outside.

The top for the Jeep arrived yesterday! Needless to say George had a project to do last night after dinner. It looks pretty good, it wasn't available in white, so got the black one with tinted windows in the back. The tinted windows will make it cooler for the kids. Going to see mama today, have to wait until early afternoon. She doesn't get up in the mornings, likes to stay up all night.

October Already

Today is Friday, October 1, 2010. The weather has started to cool a little only 88 degrees yesterday, which is about 8 degrees less than it has been. This is wonderful! Maybe fall is on its way here.

This week has been one of those weeks were you say to yourself, "Why bother?". Etsy has been making some changes to the site, which has really messed up loads of things. From the checkout to listing, uploading pictures, even the RSS feeds are not working. Sure hope that they get things back to normal really soon.

I love mama, but sometimes I have to wonder, what were you thinking? I went to see her a couple of weeks ago and I knew that something was up, just didn't know what. So me being me, I asked her what was going on. She dropped her eyes and said I might just as well tell you. Ohhh, what have you done? She "loaned" this man a good amount of money seven months ago and hasn't even got a payment from him. Please tell me that you wrote a check to him. Okay then mama, I will just go have a little one on one chat with him and if he doesn't think he needs to start paying you back, there is always small claims court. He is supposed to send her a check this week, so we shall see. If no check by next Friday, I will go file the paper work.

Mama lives on a very fixed income and only works here and there, not to much any more. She lives well within her means and is usually very careful with her money. This is so not like her to do. We pay a couple of her bills every month and don't mind doing it, so that she will have a little money left at the end of the month. This mans attitude was he would get to her when he could, I don't think so. If he had taken a bank loan, he would have started repaying it thirty days later, not seven months. Keeping fingers crossed that she gets a check from him.

The girls really enjoyed the sun yesterday after all of the rain we have had. I took pictures on my cell phone, but can't figure out how to load them to the computer. Maybe young son will know how to do this. They were all sunning themselves, all huddled together. Looked like a bunch of dead chickens laying there all stretched out.

Getting the holiday candy made and going to make an angel food cake today. I love them, but having to use a dozen eggs I rarely made them. Now with the girls doing such a great job of laying those eggs I can make one without feeling guilty about using that many eggs.

Need to get the laundry on the lines and run to town, all of the critters need food this week. Young son is going to be so happy....okay maybe not. Probably about as happy as I am to have to get the quarterly taxes done this weekend.
